The Foundation for Humane Social Link provides volunteer programmes for everyone (students, professionals, groups, and organizations) from everywhere to contribute with their determination and happiness. Volunteers are the most important thing to FOHUSO. Without them, we couldn't exist. The volunteers will use their skills and experience to help us with our projects.
GOOD TO KNOW
Volunteer's accommodation is included in the FOHUSO's fee. Foundation for Humane Social Link offers an option of accommodation for people who work as a volunteer for their organization. The place has a single self-contained room and other shared rooms. The accommodations are well ventilated and secured all the time within a closed fence. The rooms are equipped with regular electrical supply, fan, normal bed, and double-decker bed, mosquito net, bed sheets, pillow, and cupboard.
Meals usually are not included in the volunteer program. In any case, the volunteer’s accommodation has a kitchen. For those interested in cooking may purchase their requirements such as staples, vegetables, and fruits at Buzuruga market which is walkable from the hostel and cook their foods. Besides, it is focused on a nearby hotel where volunteers will be getting their foods costing about US$ 1 to US$ 2.5 for the breakfast, lunch, and dinner per single meal.
The normal working days at FOHUSO is from Monday-Saturday. On our daily activities from Monday to Friday, volunteers have to complete 9 hours (i.e. from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm) and half a day on Saturday. Saturdays (after 12.00 pm) and Sundays (all day) are usually free. For day off, they will be able to relax, visiting beautiful sceneries and doing boats riding and mountain climbing tours. It is possible also to do some trips to the places of interests such as nearby national parks.
Volunteers are required to pay $360 USD. The $200 USD for visa costs and the remaining $USD 160 for monthly accommodation, water, electricity and FOHUSO’s t-shirts. It also includes transportation from the airport (arriving and departing Mwanza). Local transports from the hostel to the office (less than $1 USD using daladala and $1 USD using a motorcycle) is not included. You also will be asked to pay a My Proext's administration fee when you are doing your application.
Field volunteers will be provided with stimulating practical experience in the following activities/areas:
Under this activity, the organization is focused on three important pillars: health, environmental and afforestation, animal’s conservation and community. The actions comprise schools and community. HEALTH: To show to students the importance of a good personal hygiene, clean water and food, proper toilets and latrine conditions. The schools are motivated to build modern and proper toilets with good clean and sewage water systems by drilling water holes and pipes. AFFORESTATION & ENVIRONMENTAL: To provide them a good education on better ways of planting trees and all the effects of deforestation on nature and man. CONSERVATION: The organization focuses on conservation of both wildlife and domestic animals, by teaching people the importance of animals to the society, for example, domestic animals provide food and security at homes while wildlife promotes tourism and economy. Students also could visit conservation areas such as Serengeti to learn the importance of conserving wildlife. COMMUNITY: Another important activity is to work with the education of the community by doing cleanliness activities, participating in events and contributing to developmental plans, such as energy usage, the collection of wastes and raw materials usage.
In agriculture, we are backing to communities around us and others to provide senior professionals who offer them education and training in good agricultural practices with high productivity. We also support the eco-tourism by stimulating farmers to learn different activities of tourism, it is a good opportunity to empower the local economy.
This is a special program for us, mainly because we recognize communities that take care of the environment and work against the cruelty with animals. FOHUSO organizes a training session which uses key strategies in educating and encouraging the community to have a new behavior. In this way, people will understand the importance of protecting the environment, to combat the poaching and to have a better social conscious. We provide different materials including leaflets, pamphlets, and posters. This will help schools, youth and people in the community, in general, to appreciate and care for nature. We are also planning to start a program of recycling, reusing, and reducing plastic waste soon. We believe that we can reach our goal, create employment for youth and street children in Lake Zone and contribute to environmental conservation efforts.
ARTS AND MUSIC
FOHUSO believe that arts, culture, music, dance, and drama are the key to achieve the best of a person. We believe that is the only way to make someone from a vulnerable situation, express itself in a truthful way. It is an important part of people's lives because it is a beautiful way to interact, celebrate, communicate and play a functional role in Africa society. Due to that, we have decided to support children and all people who come from vulnerable situations and to promote their talents by providing education and all the equipment which will enable them to achieve their goals.
