Good Hope Orphanage is a loving home for orphans in Arusha, Tanzania. We provide food, water, clothing, and shelter to every child. Additionally, we make sure that each one of them is enrolled in school during the academic term. At Good Hope volunteers are warmly welcomed.
GOOD TO KNOW
Volunteer's accommodation is included. The volunteers stay in the orphanage in outside rooms that have bunk beds with an ensuite bathroom that has a toilet, sink, and shower. Pillows, sheets, and mosquito nets are also included.
There are three meals included per day. Meals include milk, tea, Ugali rice, beans, and meat. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also part of the menu once they are available.
Volunteers work from Monday to Friday. An average work-day is 8 hours per day, so volunteers can choose which activities they want to participate in. Saturday and Sunday are usually free.
Good Hope charges you a minimum fee of $600 USD per month or $150 USD per week from each volunteer. You also will be asked to pay a My Proext's administration fee when you are doing your application.
Field volunteers will be provided with stimulating practical experience in the following activities/areas:
Assist the staff with the cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children. Play with the children, teach them new games, introduce different learning activities and help with the homework. No experience necessary.
Assist the teachers with classes, mark homework and help them to enhance their lesson plans. Normally volunteers split their time between the Orphanage and School.
No experience is necessary but volunteers should have teaching skills and also a good level of English because lessons are in English. Professional teachers are always willing to help our staff and volunteers, showing them better ways of teaching to increase the children’s learning process.
Assist contractors with some of the projects they are doing on the School grounds. Projects can include for example building classrooms. Currently, we have a secondary school project in Kisongo, 16km from the Good Hope Orphanage that we are looking forward to starting soon.
No experience is necessary but a construction background and a high level of English and/or Swahili to communicate with workers are very important.
- HIV/AIDS AWARENESS:
When you are not working at the Orphanage/School, spend time working with the 'Fighting AIDS in Tanzania' organization to educate people about AIDS and help those with the disease to learn to take better care of themselves. This includes education on safe drinking water, nutrition, hygiene, health, etc.
No experience is necessary but the medical background and facilitation/teaching experience are beneficial. English and/or Swahili speaking are required for communication with locals and translators.
This service generates NO FEE for the My Proext's members. We are always looking for help with activities and services and many of them can be done remotely. If you have a particular skill that you can use to help Good Hope, please don't hesitate to fill the micro-volunteers application form. We seek micro-volunteers for the following activities:
