All volunteers will be based in the village of Maventibao where our main Clinic is based. Whether or not you have medical experience, you will contribute to the smooth running of the clinic and you will be able to experience a developing-world healthcare system. Alternatively, volunteers are needed to help at our School, assisting the two full-time teachers.
GOOD TO KNOW
ACCOMMODATION
Volunteer's accommodation is included. You will have a personal bedroom or a hut in our compound near other volunteers. Your room will have a simple bed, a table, and a small reading light/candle. A pillow, sheet, blanket and mosquito net are provided for each volunteer. We have 5 huts available for single/double occupancy.
MEALS
Mada Clinics provides three meals a day and water to drink from the local water source. Traditional Malagasy food is quite simple, rice being the staple diet of a Madagascan (a legacy from the Indo-Malayan founders). This is often supplemented by Zebu (beef), fish or beans. Fresh fruit and vegetables are readily available in the towns and agricultural areas but are scarcer in rural areas, where the hot climate, combined with a lack of electricity, makes storage of perishable goods problematic.
SCHEDULE
Volunteers work from Monday to Friday. Days begin early, with breakfast being served between 7 and 8 am. After that, you go to the Clinic or to the School. At the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) the volunteers are free.
FEES
Mada Clinics charges you a minimum fee of $250 USD/week if the volunteer is staying less than 2 months and is not in nursing/medical school or degree, $175 USD /week if volunteer is currently in nursing or medical school and $120 USD/week if volunteer is a certified doctor or nurse. You also will be asked to pay a My Proext's administration fee when you are doing your application.
ACTIVITIES
Field volunteers will be provided with stimulating practical experience in the following activities/areas:
- CLINICS:
Whether or not you have medical experience, you will contribute to the smooth running of the clinic and you will be able to experience a developing-world healthcare system. The clinic is open 24/7 for emergencies. When you surface from your hut, you will often see patients already waiting! After breakfast, you can head straight to the Clinic to help with the day’s arrivals. The number of patients varies from day today, so sometimes this may take all morning or all day.
- SCHOOL:
Alternatively, volunteers are needed to help at our School, assisting the two full-time teachers. They have limited English but are very passionate about the importance of teaching English to the children. The children also learn French, Mathematics, History, and Geography. There are 100+ children in a purpose-built school, mostly aged from 4 to 15 some coming from as far as 10 Km every day. The school is open 07:30 until 2 pm as some of our students come from villages 7-8 miles from Maventibao.
This service generates NO FEE for the My Proext's members. We are always looking for help with activities and services and many of them can be done remotely. If you have a particular skill that you can use to help Mada Clinics, please don't hesitate to fill the micro-volunteers application form. We seek micro-volunteers for the following activities:

- TRANSLATOR (ENGLISH TO PORTUGUESE): Translate the contents of the magazine from English to Portuguese.
- DESIGNER FOR COREL DRAW: Help with changes to be made in the magazine.
