Getting involved in Chiro village is more than teaching and volunteering, it is a real Cambodian countryside lifestyle experience! The volunteer is invited to participate in the main project by teaching English in classes, following the pedagogy used here.
We welcome volunteers to support Organization for Basic Training by sharing your knowledge and experience. You can teach children and teachers focusing on pronunciation, run conversation, and reading classes and help to teach the Pre-hospitality English program.
GOOD TO KNOW
The volunteer is hosted by a family in their traditional bamboo and wooden house. Living in immersion with a family is a unique and rewarding experience because the volunteer will get to really know the people and build a real relationship with them. Although, the volunteer has their privacy, living in a private bedroom fully furnished with: mattress, bed sheets, mosquito net, fan, and electricity light. Even though most of the volunteer lives with the families, live in a private bungalow is also an option.
In both cases of the accommodation, the family provides the volunteer lunch and dinner, in a traditional way: all together in the living room sitting on the bamboo floor. Although the family members are learning English, some children are already very good and it is easy to communicate through body language and smiles.
OBT provides free classes to the children every weekday from 8 am to 11 am and from 2 pm to 6 pm. The volunteer, as an English or Computer teacher, has minimum 4 hours of lecture per day. Saturday and Sunday are usually free.
OBT charges $5 USD per day and asks them for $1 USD per day for supporting the NGO as an optional donation. You also will be asked to pay a My Proext's administration fee when you are doing your application.
Field volunteers will be provided with stimulating practical experience in the following activities/areas:
- ENGLISH AND COMPUTER CLASSES:
The volunteer is invited to participate in the main project by teaching English in classes, following the pedagogy used here. After the volunteer has been trained and according to their preferences, they will be responsible for their own classes in English and/or computer for around 4h per day. You can teach children and teachers focusing on pronunciation, run conversation, and reading classes and help to teach the Pre-hospitality English program.
- EXTRA ACTIVITIES:
The volunteer will spend time with the children hanging around the school, in the library, in a computer room or in the football field nearby for example. Those informal moments are as important as the school classes because the children can practice and improve their English skills and the volunteer can share their experience and skills in every field like handicraft, music, sport, game, etc.
OBT works also to improve the development of the whole community, the volunteer has also the possibility to come out with new projects and ideas matching with the NGO values and answering the community's needs. If you have any skills which you think might be beneficial for the children, the village or the project, you are welcome to contribute.
This service generates NO FEE for the My Proext's members. We are always looking for help with activities and services and many of them can be done remotely.
